Godwins Lodge
The Grade II Listed building is in fact two cottages, back to back, each with a single living space and a small lean-to kitchen.
The owners of the front half required a new family kitchen with views of the garden, which are only to the side of the property.
The scheme consisted of a free-standing glazed garden room, with vaulted ceiling and matching flint and brickwork, designed to be sympathetic to the original structure without overpowering it.

St Mary's Church, Berkshire.
A modest but carefully planned and crafted extension to this Grade I Listed church, the home of the famous Aldworth Giants, was granted Planning Approval and a Faculty from the Diocese of Oxford, following lengthy and detailed negotiation with English Heritage, and detailed design work.
It won support from all interested parties, including the Society for The Protection of Ancient Buildings.
ll design work illustrations and negotiations were carried out by, and approvals including the Faculty obtained by, the Practice.
The Project was completed 12 years after our initial feasibility work was undertaken.

Castle Hill, Reading
Rear extension to a Listed Building in Reading, Berkshire.
A low scale, lightweight, dynamic modern structure that relates closely to the existing fabric and context
The plan develops from the activities within, and reflects the angled walls of an historic two storey bay extension.

The Litten
A major refurbishment and alteration of a large Grade II Listed house next to a village church in a conservation area.
It included a two storey replacement extension, and an attic conversion requiring new dormer windows, whose form had to be carefully considered whilst providing necessary headroom.
The Practice has since handled the conversion of a Listed barn within the grounds into accommodation.

Barn Conversions
The Practice has worked on a number of barn conversions, Listed and otherwise, and offers specialist advice on their history, re-use, and legislative requirements.
An understanding of the nature of the buildings, their features, their history and structure is essential for successful integration of new uses, allowing dramatic and rewarding interventions that give the building new life without compromising its’ original form.
